The classical style, formed in the era of palace luxury of the 16th-18th centuries, combined elements of classicism, baroque, empire and rococo.
Modern classical interior design follows generally accepted canons, is distinguished by restrained elegance and practicality.
The differences between the types of classical styles appeared due to the formation of national traditions. But there are features common to all.
Symmetry and the main axis are the basis of the classical style. The compositional solution is subject to proportionality. Usually the center of the living room is a fireplace or sofa, the kitchen – an island. The rest of the furniture is arranged around the axis, and massive decorative items: floor vases, floor lamps, art objects – symmetrically.
Venetian classics are “fascinated” by rounded shapes, naturally this feature is embodied in modern designs. Spheres, hemispheres, smooth curves, arches – are inherent in both city apartments and private houses.
In most classic interiors there is no place for artificiality. Furniture made of natural wood, glass and metal, oak parquet or laminate, natural interior fabrics – all combined to create a practical design. Individual interior elements: fireplaces, tabletops – are faced with natural stone and marble. Expensive and luxurious items were chosen for decor: classic crystal chandeliers with pendants, natural wool carpets, carved frames.
