Decorative plaster is a very beautiful and durable coating. But both of these characteristics are true only if the plastering work was done correctly.
In the process of applying decorative plaster, you can make many mistakes that will negate the final result and upset you. To avoid them, let’s go over the key points of the rules for applying this coating.
Putty is needed to level the wall, and the primer applied over it is to create the best adhesion with the decorative coating, as well as to protect it from cracking and deformation due to changes in air and humidity. Since these two compositions go in pairs, they are usually matched to each other in order to compensate for base defects as much as possible. For example, crumbling walls need a strengthening composition, and plasterboard – products with very good adhesion.
It is not always possible to achieve an ideal result during wall preparation. In this case, you need to be prepared for the fact that the consumption of the mixture will increase, since you will have to hide the surface defects under the plaster. The cost of plaster is significantly higher than the prices for primer and putty, and therefore we still recommend paying maximum attention to the preparation of the wall. Doing this yourself is often impossible, unless we are talking about walls that are not initially distinguished by excessive curvature. Only at first glance it seems that leveling a wall is easy. In fact, it turns out that even checking whether the surface has become sufficiently smooth can be difficult. It is better to entrust this matter to professionals with a well-trained hand and a keen eye.
